In this Most life-changing courses and subscriptions series I’m sharing with you the five things that have had a MASSIVE impact on my life. I’m writing about them chronologically, because if you read through it all, you will see how they also connect beautifully together as a whole. I’m not an affiliate for any of these programs, just a seriously happy & satisfied user!
It’s time to dive into another course that proved potent beyond anything I could ever imagine: Somatics by Liz Tenuto aka The Workout Witch!
If you have been following this entire series, you know by now that I have transformed, alchemized, and elevated my life quite a lot by this point.
Something, however, was still missing.
The best I can describe this is as if I was so close to my dream state that I could see it clearly, but there was still a pane of glass separating me from actually embodying it.
I couldn’t quite figure what was missing and nothing I did or tried was able to help me transmute this weird sensation that was constantly within me.
I set the intention for the answer to come to me (much as it had with all the courses/subscriptions I’m writing about in this series) – and that was when the Universe delivered.
One day, a reel from Liz (you can find her @theworkoutwitch on Instagram) showed up on my feed. She was sharing how living with long-term stress and high cortisol levels affected your life in unexpected ways.
I recognized myself in all the symptoms. The T-rex arms when sleeping. The unexplained gut issues. The getting startled fast. The list went on and on…
Instantly, my intuition said that this was it. This was what I was missing.
So I hopped over to her website and purchased the 5 Course Bundle: From Pain to Power.
Within just a few days of starting the daily exercises, I already had my trauma release (I guess my body was really ready to let all the crap go) and I even transitioned from sleeping in mountain climber pose with T-rex arms added into the mix to sleeping on my back, my body loose and relaxed…
On my back? Loose and relaxed?
I can honestly say that I had never experienced either of those in my life before starting Liz’s course!
Over the course of the three months all those things that were bothering me started to dissipate. I felt more like myself than ever. I had more energy. More ease in my body. Even my yoga practice and flexibility improved in ways I didn’t even think was possible as I regulated my nervous system and was able to let go everything I didn’t have to hold any longer.
The best thing is that these movements are so easy and such a pleasure to do, that it felt wonderful to implement them into my daily life.
I actually repeat the course (especially the first 30 days) a few times per year, and whenever I’m not doing that, I still perform somatic movements daily, choosing them based on what I need in that moment.
I have now been practicing this for two years and I cannot imagine my life without this modality.
Not only has it given me my desired state by releasing the things I had previously still been holding deep in my body and had been affecting me on those deepest levels, but having somatics in my toolkit allows me to meet any stressful periods or anxiety-inducing situations in a healthy way.
The first time I actually sensed that my nervous system was now functioning correctly was when I was walking my dog and I saw another dog run up to us. I picked up Merkaba (because the little dude would have wanted to fight the dog off since he got startled by someone charging at him) while verbally stopping the other dog from making contact. Then I proceeded to have a mini-stand off until the dog’s owner ran up to get him and put him back on his leash.
During this event, my heartbeat kicked up, my body was alert, I was ready.
But then, as soon as the danger passed, my entire body relaxed.
I didn’t even have to do anything. I just literally felt my nervous system go “All right, danger’s gone, we can return back to normal.”
You see, this was how we were always meant to operate. This switch was always meant to work. Unfortunately, this very ancient system within us hasn’t really adapted to our evolving environment. So now it isn’t a loose dog running up to you that’s a threat, it’s emails in your inbox, it’s the bills you receive, your bank account, a text from your boss, the tests in school, an appliance wearing down and needing to be replaced, etc. When you deal with anxiety, even the simplest of social interactions fall within this category.
Faced with this abundance of “threats”, we become dysregulated. We remain in a state we were never meant to permanently be in. I know that for me, that was most definitely the case – which is also why my nervous system needed the extra support through somatics to learn how to function properly again.
Now in some cases, when I’m facing a stressful period, my body is unable to regulate itself as it can with one-off events. This is where I usually double-up on the things I learned through the course – like releasing my psoas or doing hip rocking whenever I feel myself getting stressed out.
I want to wrap up this article by saying that I firmly believe somatics should be something that every single person on this planet does.
Unlike many other forms of exercise, they are easy to perform.
They don’t take much time. You don’t need any special tools or skills.
They are some on the most friendly and straight-forward movements you could possibly do.
And yet they make a world of difference for an individual’s health and the quality of life.
If this called to you or if you’re interested in somatics, make sure to check out Liz’s website: I personally have the 5 Course Bundle and as of last year, I also own the Overcome Exhaustion in 30 Days Course (which I also highly recommend, it’s beyond effective for getting your energy back and you get to learn some new movements to put in your toolkit too)!
If you’re looking to grab a discount for any of her courses, make sure to sign up for her newsletter because she does offer special deals in there quite frequently!
